Podcast: New MOVEit Integration Available on MuleSoft AnyPoint Exchange

I got a chance to sit down with Kevin Conklin, the VP of Marketing at Ipswitch to talk more about the new MOVEit 2019 release and how the new MOVEit is now integrated with Mulesoft’s Anypoint Exchange.

Nowadays, businesses need to harness and easily manage resources, services, and tools both on-premise and in the cloud. However, when all these services and tools are in different places and sourced from different providers, it means daunting work for IT to manage all those tools and services.

More specifically, APIs are now the bread and butter of integrating apps and services. Consider an app marketplace on a mobile phone that has to integrate with a lot of systems on the backend like credit checks, ERP, and pricing systems. Integration is how all this data is connected. In order for software to stay competitive, that software needs to have the ability to integrate with a plethora of other apps and services. And just like everything else, these integrations need to be managed as well.

This is why Ipswitch has recently partnered with Mulesoft to add MOVEit to Mulesoft’s iPaaS (integrated platform as a service) solution, Anypoint Exchange.

“From a release standpoint, this is just a continuation in our efforts to take managed file transfer, which is really kind of a de facto standard in file communications between applications, and marry it to the future of API integrations,” says Kevin.

What is iPaaS?

So, what exactly is an iPaaS solution? Essentially, the Anypoint Exchange is a platform in which important apps and services can integrate together, allowing for an easier way to manage these integrations. The rationale for this is that the number of integrations that IT teams are dealing with has grown to the point that the integrations are beginning to be on par with the number of apps in the IT stack. Instead of manually having to build scripts and connect those APIs from apps manually, IT can use an iPaaS solution like Mulesoft’s Anypoint Exchange.

Use Cases for MOVEit on AnyPoint Exchange

The best examples of how MOVEit can be used on the AnyPoint Exchange are in Healthcare and Retail.

“So, there's a whole world of them,” Kevin explains. “And when we look at what industries we serve, sure, you know, we serve financial services, but financial services are one of the biggest buying centers in the world, so everybody serves them. But healthcare stands out because there's a lot of records that need to be moved, and hospitals aren't always on the bleeding edge of technology.”

The point that Kevin is making is that these files need to be moved quickly and securely. Healthcare IT teams have strict SLAs and compliance standards that need to be met, and these file transfers, whether it be doctor’s notes or personal healthcare information (PHI) need to be secure both over the wire and at rest. But on top of that standard use case for a managed file transfer solution is the requirement that this solution needs to be able to easily connect to the cloud and on-premises apps and services within the environment. These integrations can be done manually with scripts, but those scripts need to be managed and maintained. It can quickly turn into a rat’s nest of sorts.

“The whole thing in a hospital’s profitability is how quickly to get your money back, right? So if I offer a service to somebody, they come in and they get treated for a broken leg or for cancer or something, how quickly am I gonna get paid for that?” Kevin asks.

Another use case for MOVEit on Anypoint Exchange could be a company migrating data from on-premises to a cloud server. By using MOVEit on Anypoint, IT doesn’t have to worry about connecting MOVEit to an AWS or Azure server. IT just selects MOVEit in the workflow and Mulesoft’s iPaaS does the rest by managing those API connectors. MOVEit will then make sure that data doesn’t get deleted or corrupted in the movement of data. MOVEit will make sure that if somethign goes wrong that it can try again and also log the issue so that IT can inspect further.

Just the other day, MySpace lost 12 years of irreplaceable media content from users. This is a huge problem for a company that hasn’t been relevant in years, or at least not as a social media platform. These days MySpace caters to a niche audience, giving artists a platform for sharing their music and media. Had MySpace used a tool like MOVEit in their migration, that data would have most likely been saved.
