Entering LDAP Directory Information (Attributes)

The Internet LDAP protocol enables the publishing of directory information (such as address books) over the Internet. IMail Server provides an LDAP interface to the IMail user database. (The IMail user database includes standard LDAP attributes such as name, address, organization name, phone number.)

LDAP information is available to any LDAP-enabled client. (For example, WS_Ping ProPack includes an LDAP client and can be used to test the IMail LDAP server.) For more information on the LDAP server and LDAP data, see "Chapter 12: LDAP Server". To enter LDAP information for a user:

  1. In the left panel, expand a host's folder and the Users folder, and select a user. The user properties appear in the right panel.
  2. Click the Attributes tab. You see the following dialog box.

The list contains the most common attributes used in an LDAP entry. Other attributes can be defined by system administrators or the user. The Name box shows the currently selected attribute, and the Value box shows the entry.

To add an attribute (for example, shoe_size or marital_status), click Add and enter the attribute in the text box.

  3. To modify an attribute, select it and edit it in the text box.
  4. To delete an attribute, select it, and then click Delete.
  5. When you have finished making entries, click Apply.

Note: Users can also update their own LDAP information in
Web Messaging by selecting Change User Information from Personal Account Options.
