Configuring an NT User Database

You can use IMail Server to authenticate users on an NT domain, even if the computer IMail Server is installed on is not the domain controller.

If the user database is located on the domain, identify the following fields on the NT User Database Configuration dialog after selecting the Windows NT option on the Hostname dialog. If the database is local, leave these fields blank.

To configure an NT User Database:

  1. Click Tools > Wizards to turn off the Wizard.
  2. Start IMail Administrator and select localhost in the left panel.
  3. Select the host for which you want to change the User Database Type. The host's General tab appears.
  4. In the right panel, under User Database Type, select NT Database.
  5. Click Configure. The NT User Database dialog box appears.
  6. Enter the name of the NT domain in the NT Domain Name box and enter the name of the computer that controls the domain in the Machine name of Domain Controller box.

You can find the NT Domain Name and the Machine name of Domain Controller on the System Properties dialog box on the Computer Name tab. Use the Full computer name for the Machine name of Domain Controller and the Domain for the NT Domain Name.

  1. Click OK to complete the NT User Database Configuration.
Note: When using Active Directory on Windows 2000, Active directory must be installed with backward compatibility.
