ICS 2006 Features

Web Messaging (Web mail client) lets you send and receive mail using a web browser. You can log on to the Web Messaging from a browser on any computer with a supported browser and manage email without installing email client software. IMail Web Messaging uses the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4) to manage mail on the server. When a user creates a mailbox in the Web client, the mailbox is created on the mail server and mail folders and messages reside on the server.

IMail Web Administration (server) provides local or remote access to IMail Server administration features via a Web browser. You can administer all email functions, including users, groups, services, shared calendars and contacts, and anti-spam and antivirus settings.

  • If ICS WorkgroupShare is implemented in current ICS version, Microsoft® Outlook contacts automatically transfer and sync with IMail Web Messaging.

Ipswitch Instant Messaging (server) provides local or remote access to Ipswitch Instant Messaging administration features via a Web browser. You can administer all instant messaging functions, including users, public contact lists, stored conversations, and server access. As a new feature, Ipswitch Instant Messaging integrates with Microsoft® Office products by using Smart Tags. IIM Smart tags are person's names or email addresses that are associated with an IIM contact. Microsoft Office automatically recognizes smart tags in any Office document.

IMail Web Messaging, Web Administration, and Instant Messaging supports:

  • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
  • Mozilla 1.7 or later
  • Firefox 1.0.6 for Microsoft Windows
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 and later
  • Microsoft® .NET Framework 1.1

Uninstalling

1. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel.

2. Select the ICS Edition you want to uninstall.

Note:

• Removing IMail Server using the Add/Remove Programs applet does not delete the IMail directory or the subdirectories and files it contains. To remove these, you must delete them manually.

Downgrading

You can downgrade the ICS 2006 back to the original ICS installation (v2.0, 2.0A, 2.01, or 2.02) without uninstalling as follows:

1. Open the Registry Editor and locate the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{42A05E51-7514-4330-A784-B4C45412F04D}

2. Change the Version value to 2000000 (hex)

3. Launch the ICS 2.0x install and proceed as normal.

4. When asked if you would like to convert your LDAP database, select no.

Note: The IAdmin and IClient virtual directories and web files will still be on the computer.

Important: Mailbox sizes are corrupted after downgrading IMail 2006 to an earlier version (IMail 8.x). If you have quotas set up, they will fail. To correct this, delete the .uid and .xml files.

Starting the Web Admin and the Web Client

After installation, you have the option to launch the IMail Web Admin automatically. If you choose not to launch IMail Web Admin automatically, in your browser address box, type the IP address or domain name of the IMail Web Server followed by the path where you installed ICS Web Admin. For example: http://mail.domain.com/IAdmin, then press ENTER. The Web Admin login page appears.

-OR-

Click Start > Programs > Ipswitch IMail Server > IMail Server Administration. The Ipswitch Web Admin login page appears.

To launch the Web Client, in your browser address box, type the IP address or domain name of the IMail Web Server followed by the path where you have installed ICS Web Client. For example: http://mail.domain.com/IClient, then press ENTER. The Ipswitch Web Client login page appears.

Important: To use the Web Client, the IMAP Service must be running. Turn on the IMAP Service in the Web Admin, under the Services tab.

Release Notes

ICS 2006.1/IMail Server 2006.1 (v9.1)

Important: If you are using a custom ODBC.dll file developed by a 3rd party vendor, contact the vendor for information about an updated ODBC.dll file for IMail Server. Failure to update the ODBC.dll file could result in a message being misdirected or users unable to access their accounts.

Known Update Issues
• If updating from a pre 8.2x version, you will need to replace the Web Calendaring templates rather than do a partial upgrade of the templates. Failure to do so will result in display issues with Web Calendaring.
• During Activation of Premium AntiSpam, you will get a blank dialog box. This is cosmetic only and does not affect the installation.

Web Messaging
• Fixed an error where disabling the vacation message deleted all .fwd files.
• Fixed an error in which IClient was not handling commas in the display name (friendly name) correctly
• Fixed an error in which adding a fifth 'OR' condition for a Rule caused the index to point to the wrong place, making editing the rule very difficult and confusing
• Fixed an error in which Spell Check didn't work in Firefox.
• Fixed an error so that Web Mail now encloses the IP domain portion of the message ID in [ ] in the message's header
• Parity issue - added an "Add to Contacts" link in the From: section of a message to add the sender to the contacts list.
• Fixed an error in which user couldn't send mail with a comma (,) in the "Name" field.
• Fixed an error in which an error message displayed when adding a new contact to a specific WorkgroupShare public contact list.
• Fixed a UTF-8 encoding problem when sending a message with a blank subject. Outlook received the message with subject as "=?UTF-8?Q??=".
• Fixed an error that occurred when sending e-mail. The message-id in the header was branded with an IP address instead of a domain name at the end, causing customers using Declude to have failed messages.
• Users can now access/create folders with the following characters: ! @ $ ^ & ( ) _ = { } [ ] ; . ` and ,
• Fixed an error in which public contacts created in WorkgroupShare weren't showing in the Web client
• Sharing Personal Contacts - (username) was added to differentiate between multiple personal contacts folders in the folder tree/display.
• Fixed an error in which pictures in a mailbox could no longer be viewed after upgrade to 2006.04a

Administration
• Fixed a vulnerability that allowed remote attackers to execute arbitrary code within the SMTP daemon. This vulnerability was processed through the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI), an initiative launched by TippingPoint, a division of 3Com.
• Fixed an error so that the user no longer has to type user@domain.com to log into IAdmin after adding a new domain
• Fixed an error in which a user could not delete a user ID when the same ID existed on a different domain
• Fixed an error in which the Colloboration User password was not being put in the WorkgroupShare database
• Fixed an error in which Contacts weren't converted when foreign characters appeared in aliases.txt
• Fixed an error in which, when converting aliases.txt, the web client did not recognize Contact Groups properly
• Fixed an error in which, when creating a new virtual host with the same name of an existing domain's host alias replaced the existing domain
• Fixed an error in which customers with Platypus could not use wgscvt.exe to get contacts
• Fixed an error in which a link didn't work in IClient when the port in IIS was changed
• Fixed an error in which the List Digest scheduling time showed minutes only up to 31 rather than 60
• Fixed an error in which sorting of logs didn't work
• Fixed an error in which SQL multi-connect got unchecked during the first time edit of domain properties, if user didn't select Configure for the External database
• New columns have been added to the database to allow an alternate WorkgroupShare ID.
• Fixed an error in which when deleting a user the associated collaboration user was not deleted
• Fixed an error in which the Host/Domain administrator had the option to change the IP for a virtual domain if there was an unused IP address on the server
• Fixed an error in which users that were deleted in the Administrator were not being removed as Collaboration users
• Fixed an error in which the Domain Admin could still specify a user's mailbox size upon creation of a new user
• Now properly validates when adding a user, list, or alias that the name is not in use by an existing user, list, or alias
• Fixed an error in which the Domain Administrator was able to change the IP address for a virtual domain when there was an unused IP address on the server
• Fixed an error in which clicking the button to show/hide advanced options on the SMTP Service page would cause setting changes to be lost
• Fixed an error in which, when using WorkgroupShare with a SQL Server database, users could see and modify contacts in Outlook with no problem or errors, however when trying to modify the contacts in IClient, user would get an ODBC error stating that 'Now" is not a recognized built-in function name, and when trying to view Collaboration users in IAdmin an 80040e14 error would display
• When using Web Admin > Collaboration > Manage Collaboration Users to share a personal contacts folder, the Web Client was receiving a duplicate key error during login, and giving Access Permissions to the same users gave an error in the Client. The problem is caused by multiple paths of access to the same folder. Fixed so that the client now determines the highest level of access to a folder and does not duplicate the folder
• Fixed a defect in which, on peered servers with "send all remote mail thru gateway" enabled, a message coming into one of the peered servers for delivery to one of the peers will go out the gateway as an rdeliver to the peer, effectively breaking peering for those using non-routable IP's on an internal network

Installation
• Fixed an error in which, during upgrade, the install creates a host called localhost, causing registry problems
• There is a potential problem where Web Client users are unable to view, edit, or create Group Contacts on Windows 2003 domain controllers. To resolve the problem, you need you need to modify permissions and give full permissions to the asp.net user in the Windows Temp directory

Miscellaneous
• Fixed an error in which Eudora/Pegasis/Groupwise didn't display HTML messages from IClient properly
• Fixed an error in which Eudora/The Bat!/Mdaemon SMTP Authentication using CRAM-MD5 was failing after upgrade to 2006
• Fixed an error in Logserver where the delivery message was written to the sys log regardless of the level of logging the user specified
• Fixed an error where Thunderbird/Netscape/Pegasis was asking for password every 3 to 5 tries to connect
• Logserver: Fixed an error in which the delivery message was being written to the sys log regardless of the level of logging the user specified
• Web Calendaring - Fixed an error in which the language pack wasn't loading unless Web Messaging was accessed first. Web Calendar language packs are now being loaded during install
• Fixed an XML error in which The 'MsgList' start tag on line 'x' did not match the end tag of 'NewDataSet'
• Fixed an error in which WorkgroupShare offline option did not work
• Fixed an error in which Contact sorting needed correcting

SMTP
• Fixed an error so that SMTPd now removes 'T' files automatically from spool directory
• SMTPd: Fixed an error so that TLS is no longer enabled by default
• SMTPd: Fixed an error in which, if Spool directory was relocated somewhere other than the top directory (i.e., C:\Program Files\Ipswitch\Collaboration Suite\IMail\spool), SMTPd couldn't write to the correct log location

POP3

• POP3: Fixed an error where instances of failed connections can be alleviated by increasing the number of sessions

AntiSpam

• Fixed an error in which SPF, with an action set to Forward, allowed the message to be delivered to user's main mailbox

Instant Messenger

• Standalone IIM: Fixed an error in which, when prompted to add a user, the install went into a loop and kept showing Add User screen, allowing for adding the same user over and over.
