Allowing Ampersand in Windows NT User Names
The ampersand character is, by default, seen by IMail Server as a substitute for @ in e-mail addresses. This is due to the fact that in Netscape, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Eudora a user can log in to a shared-IP-address Virtual Domain as:
user&Virtual_Domain@Primary_DomainIMail Server can use multiple characters for the delimiter between the user ID and host name. By default these characters are:
@#$%&*Any of these characters may be used between the user ID and Virtual Domain name in the POP3 or IMAP login user ID.
This selection of characters can be changed. To do so,
- Locate the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Ipswitch\IMail\Global- Under this key, locate the registry string variable named
HostDelimiters; if none exists, create one- Set this variable to a string of characters, each of which will be seen by IMail Server as equivalent to @ in e-mail addresses. To use ampersands, set this to:
@#$%*Note that the @ is required by Web Calendar.
- Stop and restart the SMTP server.
It is possible that you will need to create this key again if you run Setup to update IMail Server.
