Ipswitch, Inc. Announces Worldwide Availability of Ipswitch WS_FTP Home 2007

With More Than 40 Million Customers, Ipswitch Enhances World's Most Popular FTP Client with Innovative Search, Customization and Speed Features Designed for Home Users

Lexington, Massachusetts - August 1, 2006 – Ipswitch, Inc., a leading IT software vendor, today announced the worldwide availability of Ipswitch WS_FTP Home 2007, with new features added to help users quickly and easily transfer music, photos and video files, and publish personal Websites, blogs and podcasts.  WS_FTP Home 2007 delivers the perfect blend of simplicity and performance for moving or sharing any type of file from your home computer.  Added to Ipswitch’s industry-leading WS_FTP Home 2007 are integrated desktop search capabilities, customized skins and resizing of thumbnails

Building on 15 years of success, Ipswitch has enhanced WS_FTP Home 2007 with an intuitive and customizable interface for transferring files while reducing the file transfer time and maintaining the security expected from the world’s number one FTP solution.  In an age where file sizes routinely exceed the capacity of hard drives found on computers just a few years ago, and the speed of the network hasn’t increased at the same rate, home users can save time and avoid frustration by upgrading to WS_FTP Home 2007 to share larger files.

“WS_FTP has become the standard for file transfer because we’ve listened to what the market is asking for and continue to make it  really fast and easy to use,” said Kevin Gillis, director of product management at Ipswitch.  “WS_FTP 2007 Home builds on that tradition by further enhancing the performance and adding even more ease-of-use features.  The increasing popularity of digital photography, digital music services, and even digital video, has meant that people need to move and manage a significantly higher number of ever larger files.  WS_FTP Home 2007 helps them do this by using technologies like integrated desktop search and thumbnail previews to find the files they want.”

“Desktop search allows the amount of time needed to search for documents to decrease dramatically,” said Hugh Garber, product marketing manager at Ipswitch.  “The integration of WS_FTP Home 2007 with Windows® desktop search gives users the ability to quickly find important files on their computer and seamlessly transfer them to any server location.”

WS_FTP Home 2007 contains new features which make it:

  • Searchable: Easily locate and transfer files using integrated Windows® integrated desktop search. Searching is possible by file type, size or date range and you can see results right within the WS_FTP Home interface.
  • Customizable: Users can choose from 9 new pre-packaged display skins or create their own to give WS_FTP their own unique look and feel.
  • Visual: Image files can be previewed as thumbnails, making it easy for users to identify exactly the file they need. New feature lets you customize image files and proportionally resize to the desired size.

Additional features in Ipswitch WS_FTP Home 2007 help make it:

  • Simple: Tutorials and wizards provide step-by-step instructions for connecting to an FTP server and transferring files.
  • Powerful: To transfer multiple files, users can simply drag them to a designated "HotDrop" folder -- WS_FTP instantly uploads the files. WS_FTP Home also automatically resumes interrupted transfers where they left off.
  • Link folders: Simultaneous folder navigation between any two connections with the same tree structure. Saves time by allowing single navigation to control two local or server connections.
  • Secure: WS_FTP Home uses 128-bit encryption during transfer over SSL / FTPS connections to keep files confidential during transfer.
  • Compatible: WS_FTP Home works with any standard FTP server, such as WS_FTP Server.
