Ipswitch Is Picture Perfect For UPPA

UPPA Chooses Ipswitch WS_FTP Server To Manage Image Database

Lexington, Massachusetts - March 14, 2006 – Ipswitch, the leading developer of network management, messaging and file transfer solutions, today announced that Universal Pictorial Press & Agency (UPPA) is now using Ipswitch WS_FTP Server to manage its extensive image database.

UPPA is the main trading division of Photoshot Holdings, which runs a photographic archive library, housing over 3.5 million images, with a particular interest in entertainment, politics, the law, royalty, business, music and sport. A major part of UPPA’s service is to provide a daily supply of news pictures to UK national newspapers including the The London Times and The Guardian.

“At UPPA we wanted to create user accounts in-house and issue login details respectively to the photographers, enabling them to upload their images when they produce them,” explains Garry Dunn, IT Manager at UPPA. “Likewise, authorized customers from the media needed to access the database and download the image they need.”

Andrews Computer Services, based in Apsley, Hertfordshire, is a computer specialist who supports and supplies computer solutions for small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs). UPPA approached Andrews Computer Services for a file transfer solution and Ipswitch WS_FTP Server was their recommendation for a secure file transfer server.

UPPA found that the software could manage all its specific requirements in uploading new images remotely by the authorized photographers and also allowed newspapers and magazines to securely access the database using their personalized account to download their desired photographs.

“We’ve been using Ipswitch WS_FTP Server for a year and a half now and can’t fault it,” comments Dunn. “The Server is a stable piece of software and a vast improvement on what we were using before. Ipswitch WS_FTP Server is fundamental to our business: our assets are digital photos and with WS_FTP Server we can both serve our customers and manage our critical assets.”

Ipswitch WS_FTP Server makes important data easily and securely accessible by setting up, managing, and protecting folders and files. With Ipswitch WS_FTP Server, companies may authenticate users from any ODBC-compliant user database, and set up virtual folders and multiple logical hosts on a single machine. WS_FTP Server includes a rules-based notification engine, which permits the creation of workflows based on the arrival, departure and condition of data anywhere on the Internet.

“Digital photographs are UPPA’s main intellectual property. Ipswitch WS_FTP Server is perfectly suited to organizations like this that need a flexible, secure and easy to use product to transfer files in a distributed environment,” said Ipswitch’s director of product management, Kevin Gillis. “We now have over 40 million users around the world relying on the WS_FTP family of servers and clients to transfer important data and are committed to continuing to lead data movement innovation, bringing new products to market and exceeding customer expectations.”
