Vance-Granville Community College Selects Ipswitch Collaboration Suite for Ease-of-Use, Low Administrative Overhead and Strong
Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam Features
College Implements Email, Calendaring and Secure Instant Messaging for
3,600 Students in 10 Minutes
Lexington, Massachusetts - July 14, 2006 - Ipswitch, Inc., a leading developer of network management, messaging and file transfer solutions, today announced that Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC) has selected the Ipswitch Collaboration Suite (ICS) 2006 Premium Edition over competing products as its email, instant messaging and calendaring solution. The college chose ICS based on its scalability, reliability and minimal administrative requirements as well as its strong anti-spam and anti-virus capabilities.
“We wanted an affordable solution that would provide students with email and calendar capabilities, and it had to be scalable,” said Ken Lewis, vice president of information technology at VGCC. “We added 3,600 accounts across four campus locations in 10 minutes. Everything went perfectly.”
Lewis noted that, once deployed, ICS Premium Edition takes just a tiny fraction – two to three percent – of a single person’s time to administer the system, and that he has been exceptionally pleased with the scalability, ease of implementation, and minimal support required on the part of his team. “We've had ICS Premium Edition up for two semesters and haven’t had a single student or staff complaint, or a minute of downtime. That’s a great deal any way you look at it.”
“Running IT in an academic environment comes with the challenge of massive user (student) turnover every year,” said Richard April, vice president of worldwide marketing at Ipswitch. “Educational institutions like VGCC require a reasonably priced collaboration solution designed with scalability and security in mind, so that they can focus their IT and financial resources on their core business – providing a top notch education for their students.”
Ipswitch’s messaging and collaboration product family includes Ipswitch Collaboration Suite 2006 Standard Edition and Premium Edition, as well as Ipswitch IMail Server 2006 and IMail Server 2006 Secure Edition. All of Ipswitch’s messaging solutions offer superior price/performance, scalability and total cost of ownership advantages over competing products.
“We had budgeted probably three times the amount we paid for ICS," Lewis said. "We were able to use the money we saved to begin work on the campus IP telephone project. The conversion to an IP-based system will, in turn, allow us to save more money."
Another key factor in VGCC’s decision to select ICS Premium Edition was the product’s advanced anti-spam and anti-virus capabilities. With such a large and active user base, the ability to centrally establish and manage rules blocking certain kinds of content has been instrumental in preventing viruses or other malware from affecting the entire community.
