The report (http://www.quocirca.com/report_dell.htm) questioned 1,102 SMBs about the relevance of email in today’s business environment and the catastrophic effect of downtime.

Key findings included:

  • Two-thirds of respondents said email was critical to the sales process
  • 90% rated email as critical or important to the customer service process
  • Over a quarter said sales would be significantly impacted within an hour of email going down
  • 70% of organizations expect IT to respond within 10 minutes of email going down
  • Business managers put a strong emphasis on better integration of email systems with other important applications
  • The importance of email has risen 10% from last year
