Lexington, Massachusetts – May 3, 2005 – Ipswitch, Inc., the world’s leading provider of file transfer protocol (FTP) solutions, today announced its Ipswitch WS_FTP® Educational Distribution Program (EDP), an upgrade program designed for K-12 and higher education institutions currently using Ipswitch WS_FTP Limited Edition (LE). Ipswitch has withdrawn WS_FTP LE and the rights to distribute it from the education market. The new program enables education customers to easily transition to Ipswitch WS_FTP for Education that includes both Ipswitch WS_FTP clients and servers with one year of service and support. Educational facilities benefit from enhanced security and superior workflow capabilities that enable teachers and staff to easily and confidently share data and alert students when lab results, home work, class assignments and group projects have been graded or assigned.

The program will be marketed and distributed primarily by Journey Education Marketing, Inc. (JourneyEd), the leading multi-channel software marketer to the post-secondary academic market that includes students, faculty, staff, and educational institutions.

Ipswitch is the market-leading provider of file transfer software, with more than 40 million users – many of them students– of Ipswitch’s WS_FTP product line. The company’s file transfer solutions enable students, departments or entire campuses to securely and quickly move large files, photos, data bases, videos and images used for class assignments and projects between local and remote systems and across the Internet. FTP technology offers a number of advantages over sending files as e-mail attachments in an educational setting, including the ability to encrypt sensitive files, integrate file transfer into workflow processes, automatically notify students when new assignments have been posted and control transfer speed to optimize network resources.

“We are delighted to partner with Ipswitch and help launch the WS_FTP Educational Distribution Program and offer attractive education pricing off suggested retail prices for large deployments,” said Michael Fischler, JourneyEd president and CEO. “EDP is a comprehensive program that offers many advantages to the academic community. File transfer technology is a basic and widely deployed capability in educational institutions, and Ipswitch’s technology has been the standard for these users for many years.”

Previously, Ipswitch licensed WS_FTP LE at no charge to educational users, and granted redistribution licenses to departments and select institutions for further deployment. Ipswitch has withdrawn WS_FTP LE from the educational market and has introduced the EDP to allow technology managers at educational institutions to deploy the advanced features and improved user experience in the latest releases of WS_FTP for Education.

New options with Ipswitch WS_FTP for Education, including tighter security, and more customization options, make it easier to use than WS_FTP LE. Specific new security features include 128-bit encryption and greater control over security applied to individual files. In addition, WS_FTP for Education features an improved two-pane send/receive user interface, a standard technology that Ipswitch invented. Users migrating from WS_FTP LE will require little or no retraining to use WS_FTP for Education’s totally updated and modernized user interface.

“Ipswitch recognizes that academia and its IT systems are under increased security and usability demands,” said Alex Neihaus, vice president of marketing, Ipswitch, Inc. “By offering those institutions Ipswitch WS_FTP for Education, Ipswitch is providing the most advanced integration with workflow schemes, security and enhanced usability available to educators.”
