Ipswitch, Inc. Announces Availability of Ipswitch WhatsUp Developer
Software Development Kit Allows for Customization of Market-Leading Network Monitoring Environment
Lexington, Mass. – February 22, 2005 – Ipswitch, Inc., the leading developer of network management, messaging and file transfer solutions for small and medium businesses, today announced the availability of Ipswitch WhatsUp® Developer, a software development kit (SDK) that enables development of custom network management applications built on the widely deployed network management capabilities of WhatsUp Professional. Both corporate and third-party development organizations now have unprecedented access to the capabilities of this advanced network management system. Value-added resellers (VARs), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) partners and system integrators may leverage Ipswitch WhatsUp Developer to deliver even more advanced functionality by combining and/or customizing their technology to leverage Ipswitch WhatsUp Professional, the network monitoring solution that is used to monitor over 40,000 networks worldwide.
“Ipswitch WhatsUp Developer is another example of how Ipswitch consistently meets the needs of the small- to-medium sized business segment,” said Alex Neihaus, vice president of marketing, Ipswitch. “With Ipswitch WhatsUp Developer, we are promoting the growth of the WhatsUp Professional customization and enhancement industry. SMB customers will now have access to even more management capabilities in the applications our partners and VARs will shortly be bringing to market. It epitomizes our commitment to create solutions specifically for SMBs to help them succeed.”
WhatsUp Developer allows users to create their own plug-ins for active monitors, passive monitors and actions. The plug-ins can be added to the WhatsUp Professional console, where users can configure them for their specific environments. Leveraging the capabilities of WhatsUp Developer, third-party development organizations can build customized monitoring options to track availability and performance of specific applications or proprietary devices outside of WhatsUp Professional’s default capabilities. Additionally, developers can build new actions to be executed upon specific network failures. WhatsUp Professional manages the data generated by the plug-ins using a simple interface and provides access to that data for reporting purposes.
WhatsUp Developer also enables users to create classes for device discovery, allowing them to initiate the WhatsUp Professional device discovery process from their own application. Also from their own application, users can create classes for event listeners to monitor events that occur in the WhatsUp Professional system.
